I recently read a twitter post that resonated with me. It said something along the lines of that they did not trust bloggers that did not post negative reviews because they did not want to hurt the authors’ feelings.
I thought that was interesting, because I DO do that. But, it isn’t because I am trying to be nice, I am not THAT nice, I just tend to find the positive in things and focus on it.
I am sure my friends and others hate me sometimes, because this is how a conversation goes after I see a movie.
“Hey! I totally saw XXX in theaters over the weekend.”
“What did you think about it?”
“Well, I liked it because of X, X, and X. I really enjoyed it.”
“Really? It had horrible reviews?”
“Well, I liked it.”
By focusing on the positive I have enjoyed books with horrible grammar mistakes, weird plots, and much much more. You will see that I rarely will ever give a 3 or less stars rating for a book. The majority of my reviews are 4 and 5 star reviews, that is because I REALLY enjoy them. 5 means that I would re-read the book like crazy and 4 means that I would probably re-read as well. This is also because I either choose to review books that I loved and found on my own or I have picked out some really amazing ARCs to review.
Granted, if there are mistakes or things that do not make sense, I will mention that in my review, but I do not focus on it and would rather give positive feedback and focus on what I enjoyed about it and help readers in making their decision to read the book.
If this means that you, as a reader, do not want to check out my blog and thoughts because you do not believe them to be impartial and that I am too nice, well I am sorry that you feel that way, but I understand and wish you the best in your quest for the next best romance novel!
