What Happens when a Southern Firecracker Marries a Secret Heir?

This book was a great fun read! We can see all of our favorite characters from the books past and of course gain new ones to enjoy. It was great delving deeper into Peach and Victor’s family and understanding why she is such a firecracker and why he is such a stick in the mud. Read more thoughts about this book below!

“I would be quite relieved if you would eat something.”

“Is it poisoned?”

“Not yet, but I could call down to the kitchens if you’d prefer it to be.”

If I had to pick a bride of convenience, my first choice would NOT be Peach Maloney.

My fiftieth choice would NOT be Peach.

Top spot on my list of occupational hazards? Yes.

Royal pain in the crumpets? Yes.

A bride of convenience? No.

But I’ve unexpectedly gone from royal bodyguard to monarch, having inherited a crown that was stolen from my family long before my birth. The kicker of this unexpected royal gift? In order to take the throne I must find a wife.

Have I mentioned Peach would NOT have been my hundredth choice?

But I’ve no other options, and she needs a favor that my new position can fulfill quite nicely. So we’ve agreed to play the doting newlyweds out in public.

In private, though, our rules are simple:

No touching.

No talking.

And certainly no sex.

I should have known better than to marry a rule-breaker.

My Thoughts <3

Wow, this book had MAJOR sexual tension! We have met both Peach and Victor in previous Pippa Grant books if you have been keeping up with them and let’s just say they pretty much hated each other from the very beginning. So how did they get into their current situation? Let’s see….

Peach is co-owner of Weightless with Joey. She has a 14-year old sister, Papaya that LOVES mischief and basically messing things up for others. She wants to make sure that Papaya gets the love an support that Peach herself got from being raised by her grandmother, because she sure hadn’t gotten it before. Peach really is a “peach”. She is a strong Southern lady that stands up for what is right. When she goes to try to get custody of Papaya, the judge tells her that a single working lady would not be able to care for a precocious teenager and denies it. So what does she take out of this conversation? …. She needs to get married fast.

Victor is Prince Manning’s bodyguard and stiff as a board. All we really got from him in previous stories is that he adores Gracie and is a tight ass about his job. When we finally get a chance to get in his head, it was very enlightening. Basically, his grandfather was King for a country called Amoria before he was overrun and exiled. His grandfather used to talk about how amazing Amoria was and that they valued love over everything. Fast forward to present day and the present king died without a heir and the citizen’s of Amoria want to right wrongs and have Victor’s family back. Which Victor is oldest so it is expected for him to take the throne, only one caveat… this is the country of love and Victor is super single. He needs to find a wife if he will be able to take over the thrown.

Victor and Peach decide to help each other and get married. Victor needs a wife and Peach needs stability for Papaya. They move to Amoria and that is when things get VERY interesting…

You will have to read the book to see about the crazy shenanigans that go down and how things unwind between a stick in the mud and a very vocal Southern lady. It is a great story about trying to do the right thing for everyone else, and perhaps finding just what is right for yourself in the process.
