Y’all, I just read this great book called Some Wounds Heal. It was done by a first time author, but boy could you NOT tell by reading it.

This book grabbed my attention from page 1 and didn’t give it back until I read the last page.

Please see below for a blurb of the story and my thoughts.

PS: My thoughts are super positive!

Gwen Thompson had never really recovered from the brutal attack that almost took her life. Settled into a comfortable rut, she had almost come to terms with the fact that she would never be truly happy, that maybe it was better to be lonely and grey than to risk ruin for the faint hope of passion.

Then two men come into her life. One wants her; mysterious and powerful, he arouses feelings that frighten her even more than he does. The other wants revenge for an insult she never gave, and is bent on making her suffer before he destroys her.

She does not know if she has the strength to escape her past even as it claws at her, or if the demons that haunt her will allow her to love, but one way or another, she will find out.

Warning: this book is sexually explicit, contains language that some may find offensive, and depicts acts of violence that some may find triggering.

My Thoughts <3

I found out about this book after following and being followed by the Susan Stanley on Twitter and she has the link on her profile page. We exchanged a few messages and I told her that I would TOTALLY check out her book and share my thoughts because:

1) Have you see the cover?

2) Have you seen the blurb?

Both of which totally caught my attention, which of course, rightfully so I would want to check it out!

So let’s get on with the review…

I loved the opening scene of the book, it is such a crucial time to make sure that writers grab their readers attentions and this was definitely done the right way, not only that, but it had me guessing numerous times during the book of WHEN did this happen? WHERE did it fall in the timeline.

That made it even more exciting for me.

In terms of the characters, I thought that Susan Stanley did a great job in building out not only the main characters, but also the secondary as well. Amber, Gwen’s roommate, feels a little like my spirit animal!

Gwen definitely was shy and timid, which we find out why exactly, and let’s just say the gal definitely had reasons to back up her personality. Aiden also had reasons to back up his hard and stony personality as well. We did not get as much information about Aiden, which it would have been nice to delve more deeply into, but it was enough to figure it out yourself.

In terms of the story line, I absolutely loved it. It kept me intrigued for what was going to happen, when it was going to happen, and how people would react to every thing happening.

All in all, I would give this a 4.5 out of 5.

Again this is on Kindle Unlimited, go CHECK IT OUT!!!

If you like dark and gritty stories, you will enjoy reading this, I cannot wait for more from this author!

About The Author

Hi! I’m Susan Stanley. I’m a writer. I’ve been a writer for what seems like a long time; I wrote short stories from the age of about eight or nine years old and although they’re pretty cringey now, that was really the start of my journey. I love romance, and writing it; I love the way the characters’ feelings unfurl and develop, stories where people find love in unlikely places, where people find themselves and develop strengths and passions they never they had. Humans are social, and our romantic relationships are some of the most important, challenging, and rewarding that we have.

I generally write pretty explicitly. It’s towards the ‘hot’ end of romance, but not erotica. I just like getting into the naughty stuff in detail; my characters are passionate people, and that’s reflected in their relationships. I don’t shy away from bad language either, and that probably follows logically. In dialogue, it depends on the character. Some are more reserved and tend towards the “oh, fiddlesticks” end of the scale, others can be foul-mouthed when called for. I like them to be distinct and to have recognizable personalities and mannerisms. I don’t write violence for pleasure, nor do I like to dwell on it, but sometimes violence, trauma, suffering and healing are part of a human story, and sometimes they’re part of my stories. I will put warnings up for a book that contains this stuff, though, so readers know what they’re potentially getting into, and I mention all this here so you know what to expect from me as an author.

I’ll gladly have anyone review my books. I don’t care if you’re the New York Times or a blogger with ten hits a week; if you want a review copy, just ask.

I love to hear from readers. If you loved what I wrote, or you hated it, or you wished it did more of something or less of something else, let me know. Writing may be an art, but ultimately I want to write things that people want to read and enjoy reading.

I live in Ontario, Canada, with my husband and our two cats. Sometimes they’re annoying, but I love them, and I’m reasonably certain they love me back. Yes, I’m including all three in that.
