Dark, Gritty, Deathly, Passionate, Emotional, Riveting, Beautiful…
I LOVED IT!

Geez, LJ Shen knows exactly how to knock the wind out of you with using her words. This story rocked me to the core, and I have not said that about a book in a LONG time. I was entranced and could not put this book down. The emotions I felt were ALL over the place in the best way possible. I HIGHLY encourage you to read this book.

MY THOUGHTS:

This book is dangerous! I did not really know what I was getting into after just reading the blurb, all I know is that I am glad I read it! Are you looking for a dark and deadly love story to get your heart pounding and your brain working? If so… read this! It does contain violence and adult situations, but it just added to the overall deathly theme of the book. After reading the first few pages I was hooked and could NOT put it down.

Prescott is a flame burning bright, unfortunately for her, she was in some crazy deep crap at the moment. We don’t start off with her backstory, finding out more and more through the book and it was extremely smart of the author. It is almost like a breadcrumb that you could follow to get the the heart of it all. At the beginning we find her being snatched by some pretty horrible people and being held against her will. She is not shrinking violet though, no this girl is tough as nails and does not put up with ANYTHING.

Beat is just out of prison and trying to stay afloat. He is a killer, but for good reason. He was sent to prison because his daddy took his anger out on his mama with his fists one too many times. He is for the most part a really good guy, scary has hell, but he knows right and wrong. Beat is a nickname given to him because he loves the old Beat authors back in the day. He has SOOO much depth and of course is super sexy, so he definitely has that going for him too. 😉 You can tell from the very beginning he has depth when it shows him “working” for his rich client who basically sexually harasses him. He doesn’t take care of the situation by throwing the client a bone (literally), he ignores it and it genuinely bothers him.

I never want to ruin a story with spoilers, but I can tell you that Prescott and Beat were made for each other. Both never thought that they could find something real with another person. Both way too dark and dirty to wish for something for themselves. Both just wanting to be free. Just far will they have to go to finally get that freedom?

Favorite Quote: “You’re not a woman …. you’re a storm.”

You will not regret reading this book. It was dark. It was dirty. It was so freaking hot. It was everything.
LJ Shen gets the darker romance and the books are freaking amazing, but this was definitely one of my favorite books by here.
